Choose Life!   Leave a comment

The wicked shall be tuned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Psalm 9:17
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:15
Luke 16:19-31
“There was a certain rich man which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day. And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And, beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed; so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldst send him to my father’s house; For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.”

One wonders why would a loving God promise everlasting torment to unrepentant sinners. But then one has to ask first questions first. Is God good? Certainly God is good. That is an acceptable and biblical saying, God is good. Then if God is good. In what way is he good? Well plains scripture says he is “Perfectly good,” and God is Fair. It what be right to say God is fair, more than fair if he does not give us what our sins deserve but in fact gives grace upon grace and blessing upon blessing. God can be said to be our “ultimate good”
If a person spurns that which is ultimately good, what kind of reward should he get? Should he get a reward for spurning that which is ultimately good, and that is God? I was reading a article the other day entitled “All roads lead to God.” And the summation of what the seemingly eucamenical argument came up with is “yes all road leads to God “
Philippians 2 make this very clear (among others) 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Some will come to God and face Him as their Judge and some will come to God and He will receive them as their Father

I remind myself of this as I too contemplate that I should also one day be found to be standing before the judgement seat of Christ so it is imperative for Christians to be alert and be ready for their meeting with God. For what is certain is that every man or woman born on this earth will have their day in court. Shall we not fall upon His mercy now and obey His commandments especially to love one another in the bond of Christ?
I do not want to contemplate the lake of fire or an eternity without God. But here is the bottom line. If God was not a God of Justice as well as a God of love this world would be the domain of the godless for eternity. Pretty grim prospect. Can we imagine a world where there is no final justice? Would you even want to live in such a world?
I don’t think so. Most would honestly say, ‘we wish for a day when justice will be finally done. Then does God love those who chose to go to an eternal hell?
What sayeth the scriptures’I think the gospel of John gives an answer that does not require to much interpretation…John 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him

It is a sad fact that some will hate God forever and he will be angry with them forever. I will end this rather sobering contemplation with this Joshua 24 we read..
“Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,
