Present Yourself   Leave a comment

Romans 12

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

I have been reading through Romans and have been attracted to this thought that seems to come out of the book, and that is to “present yourself” It is an earnest plea from the Apostle that those who profess Christ should present themselves to righteousness and become a slave of it, rather that present yourself to sin which has only death as its reward.

The appeal to the will (I beseech you) means that the will is to be the master over the body. The thinking of our age says that our body must tell the will what to do; but the Bible says that our will must bring the body as a living sacrifice to God. The body is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master. Keeping it at God’s altar as a living sacrifice keeps the body where it should be.

What encourages me is that since God is for me (Romans 8:31) this then is my desire too, the idea here is to present and to keep on presenting yourself to God and not to sin. The real practical implications is that first avoid and repent of any known sin. Then too present all to God that He may sanctify and keep us in this process of being made like the Christ we worship. To be like Jesus and to enjoy communion with Him has to be our highest good. Present yourself to Him today and keep yourself in a place where you keep on doing that.

The ‘issues that so many struggle with will in this act of “presenting yourself to God”, disappear, for sin will be seen for what it is, and can be repented of, and righteousness will appear, since it is in the ground of Christ ‘s righteousness ,we have this freedom. This is glory. To be like Jesus. Present yourself today to the one who has Loved your soul. Jesus the Christ.
