Earth’s crammed with heaven,….   Leave a comment

Earth’s crammed with heaven,

And every common bush afire with God;

But only he who sees takes off his shoes;

The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries. – Elizabeth Barrett Browning

I love this quote from Elizabeth Barrett Browning, it speaks volumes of God’s Omnipresence and His Holiness. It speaks of seeing God in the everyday, very much involved in our human affairs yet distinctly above it.

Seeing God, in the affairs of life, can only be a work of His regenerating Spirit, in a persons, life, Jesus was very direct with Nicodemus in John r when told He told him “unless a man be born again he cannot see..see what, the Kingdom of God.

To those born into this Kingdom, Creation becomes a spokesperson to the divine. Now while this might sound a mystical, there certainly is a mystery to God. We can only know Him as much as He reveals Himself to us, and as long as we don’t attribute divinity to creation itself, we may marvel at its creator.

In the word’s of the poet. “Only he who sees takes of his shoes. “ maybe in the course of today it would be good to do just that. Look and see what our God has done.

In the words of C.S. Lewis. “ In the course of an ordinary day you will meet many men and women, all with a divine spark, with the divine imprint and image on them. Creatures made for eternity. So be careful how you treat them for they like yourself were made with a divine and elective purpose in mind. “
